Trivia:
1. In America, an average
child will use between 8 -10,000 disposable diapers ($2,000 worth) before
being potty trained. Each year parents and babysitters dispose of about 18
billion of these items. In the United States alone these single-use items
consume nearly 100,000 tons of plastic and 800,000 tons of tree pulp. We
will pay an average of $350 million annually to deal with their disposal.
Plastic does not biodegrade; these diapers will still be in the landfill
300 years from now.
2. We throw
away more than 60 million plastic bottles a day.
3.A cigarette butt that
entered the ocean in 1986, starts to decompose in 1991 which is five years
after.
4. A Styrofoam cup that
enters the ocean decomposes only after eighteen years while it takes fifty
years for a tin can to decompose.
5. If one thinks it is
shocking to know that it takes 450 years for a plastic bottle that enters the
sea to decompose, wait till he is informed that it takes one million years for
a glass bottle that enters the ocean to decompose.
